Kramer Goes 2-0 on Senior Day, Men's Tennis Falls to Islanders

NEW ORLEANS – Nicolas Kramer ended his home career at New Orleans with a 2-0 day but it wasn't enough as the New Orleans Privateers (7-14, 1-4) lost 5-2 to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders (16-8, 3-1) on Saturday at the University Tennis Center.

The Privateers started the day by winning an exciting doubles point. The lone senior, Kramer and Odysseas Papaioannou were first off the court after a 6-3 win at flight three to move their Southland doubles mark to 3-1.

The Islanders responded with a win of their own as Francois Kellerman and Okkie Kellerman paired up for a 6-4 win. However, Samuel Armand Johannes Klein had the answer to give New Orleans the opening point. Armand and Klein battled to a tiebreaker which they won 7-4 to remain unbeaten in Southland play in doubles (4-0).

Kramer won his singles match in straight sets. After recently coming back from injury, he was able to topple Kellerman at flight four 7-5, 6-2. His match however was the fifth to finish as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi had already sealed the win by that point.

The Islanders won the first four matches to finish in singles, all in straight sets. William Mottet began matters with a 6-2, 6-3 win at flight one. Kyohei Yamanaka followed with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at flight six. Thibault Frumholz won 6-3, 6-4 at flight five. The deciding point came from Francois Kellerman at flight two where he won 6-4, 6-3.

The last match of the day went to three sets at flight three. Klein won the first set, but his opponent Carlos Pedrosa struck back in the second. It went to a 10-point tiebreak which went to Pedrosa to give the Islanders their fifth and final point of the afternoon.

New Orleans' conference slate finishes at 1-4. They'll wrap their season at LSU on Sunday, Apr. 21.
