NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team wound up being shorthanded for singles in a 6-1 loss against the Tulane Green Wave on Tuesday afternoon at City Park.
The Green Wave battled their way to a win in the doubles point to start the day. Akos Kotorman and Hamish Stewart won 6-2 at flight two. Then the Green Wave pushed their way to a 6-4 victory at flight one to give Tulane the first point of the day.
In singles, New Orleans was down to five players so the Green Wave got a point by default to go ahead 2-0. Dane Esses finished off a win at flight four while dropping only three games in a straight set victory to put Tulane to a 3-0 lead.
The Privateers got on the board with a victory from
Mats Westkamp. He defeated Stewart 6-3, 6-3 to draw New Orleans to within 3-1.
Tulane got the match sealed by Tyler Schick at flight two. His 6-1, 6-1 victory gave the Green Wave the triumph in the crosstown battle. In the remaining two matches, the Green Wave dropped a combined seven games between the matches at flight three and five.
Kotorman won 6-0, 6-1and Felix Ewers scored a 6-1, 6-3 decision in his favor to close the day for Tulane. Tim Ruetzel got the default victory at flight six.
New Orleans will next face the UIW Cardinals at home on Thursday, Apr. 4. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start at the University Tennis Center.
