Gilhespie's Comeback Seals Privateers' Win vs. Stephen F. Austin

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (6-0, 1-0) battled through a high intensity doubles point and got a comeback win from Claudette Gilhespie in singles during a 4-3 win over the Stephen F. Austin Lady Jacks (5-6, 0-1) on Friday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.

THE COMEBACK
Gilhespie's serve was broken in the middle of the first set but she acquired the break right back to make the score 4-3. Her opponent, Nida Kamal had a service break to win the opening set but Gilhespie stormed back as she won the next two sets 6-2, 6-3 to earn the match clinching point for the Privateers.

DOUBLES
The Privateers had two late service breaks to win the opening point. Tristanne Dechoux and Yurina Asai converted a late break then followed with a service hold to win 7-5 at flight one. Ank Vullings and Lea Alguacil also earned a service break to win by the same score at flight two.

SINGLES
Vullings earned the first singles point for the Privateers. Shortly after Stephen F. Austin tied the score at 1-1, Vullings raced out to a big early first set lead en route to a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Gendra was the next off the court with a win at flight four. Gendra rallied back to win the last three games of the first set and parlayed that into a 6-3 second set.

Stephen F. Austin won the next two matches in straight sets at flight three and six to set up the tiebreaking match which Gilhespie took to keep the Privateers unblemished on the season.

FROM COACH KANGA
"It was a great team effort and the doubles point was huge considering we had to make some last minute adjustments. Ank and Mar were methodical and Claudette did a great job coming back to clinch the match for us."

NEXT UP
