Men's Tennis Rolls to Victory over Loyola

NEW ORLEANS - A new day brought a dominant performance as the Privateers men's tennis team (4-1) finished a two-win weekend with a 7-0 sweep over the Loyola Wolfpack (0-3) on Saturday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.

The Privateers kept the momentum up from their thrilling victory over Jacksonville State on Friday which started with another solid doubles performance.

DOUBLES
The Privateers' top tandem of Mats Westkamp and Austin Vos wasted no time getting the Privateers on the mark with a 6-2 victory at flight one. With that victory in the books, Espen Lagarde and Max Heinzel followed with a double break victory of their own at flight three.

New Orleans continued to keep the pressure on in singles as four matches finished in straight sets.

SINGLES
Heinzel began with an early victory as his opponent, Joseph Short had to retire due to injury in the middle of the first set.

Westkamp continued his unblemished singles run as he moved to 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Tiger Cheung. The match was sealed when Lagarde won at flight six singles as he scored a single break in the first set on his way to a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Ernesto Telles.

With the outcome already decided, Misha Fomenkov scored the next point for the Privateers as he won the first set while not conceding a game. Malte Steingass recorded a victory at flight five and Johannes Klein came back from a set down for the second straight day to win his singles match and close out the sweep.

FROM COACH KANGA
"I'm proud of the way we competed this weekend. We played well against a solid Loyola men's team. We'll take it as this team will face a tough LSU squad next week."
