NEW ORLEANS –
Jahmel Myers scored 20 points and
Bryson Robinson broke the single season record for threes made as the New Orleans Privateers closed the season with a 79-69 victory over the Southeastern Lions on Saturday at Lakefront Arena.
The Privateers held off a Southeastern charge that started midway through the second half and cut the Privateers' lead from 10 down to two. For the evening, the Privateers shot 53.7 percent from the field and had 19 assists.
THE RECORD BREAKER
Robinson's record breaking triple came in the second half with 17:47 left on a corner three. He broke James Parlow's record for threes in a single season as he connected on his 86
th of the season.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Myers went 9-for-10 from the floor and added seven rebounds along with two blocks in 36 minutes. All 12 of Robinson's points came in the second half.
Troy Green added 16 points and eight assists.
Lamont Berzat finished with 11 points. Senior,
Jaylen Key had five points and five rebounds in 13 minutes.
FIRST HALF
After a back-and-forth start to the game which saw no team lead by more than four and nine lead changes in the first 15 minutes, the Privateers started to pick up the scoring pace toward the end of the half.
Myers was the recipient of an alley oop dunk, which was part of eight straight points scored. New Orleans went on a 9-0 run over the next two minutes to stretch to a 31-23 with 2:47 remaining.
New Orleans carried a 36-32 advantage into the halftime locker room on the strength of shooting 57.1 percent from the floor. The Privateers outrebounded Southeastern in the first half 17-11 and dished out 13 assists.
SECOND HALF
The Privateers started the second half with 14 points in the first five minutes and extended their lead to 50-40 in that stretch. The margin continued to stay around the same until an 8-0 Lions run narrowed the gap to two with just over nine minutes left.
The next possession down,
Gerrale Gates' second chance bucket kept the Privateers ahead. The teams traded buckets until the decisive run, which started with just over six minutes left. Green scored five points in that span.
Fittingly, on Senior Night, Robinson provided the dagger with another corner triple that came with 49 seconds remaining to put the Privateers up 76-67.
