NEW ORLEANS –
Derek St. Hilaire went off for 33 points and the New Orleans Privateers (3-9, 2-2) outpaced the McNeese Cowboys (6-7, 0-4) by the score of 99-84 on Saturday evening at the Lakefront Arena.
LEADING THE WAY
St. Hilaire canned six three-pointers in the first half alone on his way to the second 30-point game by a Privateer this season. He joins
Troy Green who poured in 34 against Campbell.
Damion Rosser notched his fourth career double-double and third of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Troy Green added 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Rodney Carson Jr. had eight points and five assists.
Lamont Berzat added eight points and Krunchy Marshall had seven points along with five boards.
The win was the eighth by the Privateers in the last nine meetings between the two schools.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-St. Hilaire reached a season high for triples in a game in the first half when he drained six.
-The Privateers scored on their first five possessions to begin the contest and got 11 points in the first 2:51.
-McNeese led by as many as 10 in the opening stanza, but the Privateers responded immediately with an 11-0 run of their own in the ensuing 2:04.
-New Orleans dominated the offensive glass with an 8-1 edge on the offensive boards.
-Both teams shot 50 percent or better in the opening half. The Privateers connected on 21-of-42 shots while McNeese made 56 percent (14-of-25). The Privateers led 52-41 at the break.
-The Privateers withstood a 10-2 Cowboys run to begin the second half which saw their lead trimmed to three.
NOTES
-The first half marked the first time New Orleans scored 50-plus points in a half since Jan. 15 of last season at HBU.
-New Orleans smashed their previous season high in points, which stood at 86 in their win against UIW.
-The win moved New Orleans to 11-3 in 14 career meetings against McNeese at home.
-This marked the third straight game the Privateers out-rebounded their opponent. They held a 43-31 advantage on the boards against the Cowboys.
-New Orleans dished 28 assists, the most in a game since Nov. 29, 2019 vs. Eureka.
