Men's Tennis Dominates in Singles, Defeats St. Mary's (TX)


SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (3-2) asserted command early and never relented in a 6-1 victory over the St. Mary's (TX) Rattlers on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Privateers came back from falling in the doubles point to win all six singles matches. Five of them came in straight sets.
 
SINGLES DOMINANCE
Marcel Volz got things started with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at flight three that got the Privateers on the board. He was followed by Austin Vos who won his second consecutive match at flight one with a 6-3, 6-3 decision.
 
The line kept moving with Misha Fomenkov who won his match also in straight sets. Klein won the first set by a double break and took the second 6-4 to move the Privateers within range of a win.
 
That victory was achieved by Mihajlo Drobnjakovic who appeared in his first singles match of the season. Drobnjakovic pulled a 6-4, 6-3 win to seal the deal for the Privateers.
 
Luke Joujan rallied back from a set down to keep his undefeated string going in singles with a 5-7, 6-0, 6-1 victory. Max Heinzel finished off the singles run with a 6-4, 7-6 victory for the Privateers.
 
The Rattlers took the first point with wins at flight three to start off and flight two which clinched the opening point of the day.

NEXT UP
The Privateers will host North Dakota on Friday, Mar. 19 and Alcorn State on Mar. 20.
