Women's Tennis Defeats McNeese, Moves to 6-1 in Southland Play

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team continued their run to 6-1 in Southland play after a 5-2 victory over the McNeese Cowgirls on Friday afternoon in Lake Charles.
 
The Privateers won the first two flights in doubles to get the day started. Lina Hohnhold and Tristanne Dechoux put together a 6-2 win at flight one. They were followed closely by Ank Vullings and Lea Alguacil who turned in a win by the same score to get the first point on the board.
 
SINGLES
There were several closely contested matches as the day broke down into singles. Three of the six flights went a full three sets with two matches going to the Privateers.
 
Vullings and Hohnhold started the day with dominant performances at the top of the rotation. Vullings only lost four games in a 6-3, 6-1 win over over Sofia Moreno. A short while later, Hohnhold grabbed another point with a 6-4, 6-2 decision.
 
McNeese got on the board first at flight three with an 11-9 decision on a tiebreak in the second set. However, the Privateers came back to seal the match at flight six.
 
Alguacil earned a three-set win over Yakina Abe. In the third set, Alguacil won by a double break to finish off a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 decision.
 
Salma Abdelrahim earned the other point for the Privateers. Both of her first two sets went to tiebreaks and Abdelrahim had to rally from a set down to take a hard fought victory at flight five.

NEXT UP
The Privateers make the short trip to Hammond to face Southeastern on Sunday. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
