NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (1-1, 1-0) used several strong performances in singles to rally back to a 4-3 victory over the Northwestern State Lady Demons (1-3, 0-3) on Friday at the University Tennis Center.
The win was the first for the Privateers on the court against Northwestern State in the last five meetings.
FOUR IN A ROW
Mar Gendra secured the game winning point at flight three. Gendra overcame a 4-1 deficit as she roared back with five straight games. Gendra won the second set by a single break for a 6-4, 6-4 win to give the Privateers a victorious start to Southland play.
Salma Abdelrahim got the ball rolling for the Privateers with a 6-2, 6-3 victory to put the Privateers' first point on the board.
Ank Vullings followed with her 17
th consecutive singles victory dating back to Apr. 2019. Vullings secured an early break in the first set. Vullings then won five of the last six games in her second set to secure a 6-2, 6-3 decision.
Lina Hohnhold cruised to the first set in her match at flight two. Then Hohnhold earned a late service break to repel a rally from Viktorie Wojcikova, which put the Privateers on the brink of victory.
