THIBODAUX, La. – The New Orleans Privateers (7-4, 3-2) made the adjustments necessary in singles to score a 5-2 win over the Nicholls Colonels on Monday afternoon at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
With the regular season finished, the Privateers now go into the Southland tournament as the 3-seed. Their first round match will take place against Lamar.
SINGLES RALLY
The Privateers were defeated in all three courts in doubles to start the day including a tiebreak at flight three.
In singles though, New Orleans came out firing with five wins. That included
Max Heinzel,
Marcel Volz and
Johannes Klein who all put the finishing touches on undefeated conference records.
All three men went 5-0 against Southland opponents. Heinzel scored a 6-1, 6-1 win on the day and was the first off court.
Volz outlasted Ricardo Machado in a second set tiebreak for a straight set victory (6-4, 7-6). Klein rallied back from down a set and won 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 against Griffin Babineaux.
Wins were also secured by
Espen Lagarde and
Luke Joujan. At flight four, Lagarde won in straight sets, securing a single break in each.
Joujan had to come back from a set down but he controlled the rest of the match to score his win at flight six.

"We came back strong after a slow start in doubles. But we regrouped in singles and played well enough to win and at the end of the day and now we move forward and get ready for Lamar in the conference tournament."
NEXT UP
The Privateers will face Lamar on Saturday, Apr. 24 at 10 a.m. The winner will advance to the championship on Sunday to face either Texas A&M-Corpus Christi or UIW.
