CHARLESTON, S.C. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team won the doubles point but could not overcome a Charleston charge in singles during a 4-1 loss on Saturday at the College of Charleston Tennis Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers gained early momentum with a doubles victory at flight two and three.
Ank Vullings and
Estelle Vanthier continued their winning ways as they moved to 6-1 as a tandem. Vullings and Vanthier won 6-4 at flight two.
Mar Gendra and
Lea Alguacil won 6-3 at flight three to give the Privateers the first point of the day heading into singles.
However, Charleston took over in singles. Halli Trinkle was the first off court after winning 6-0, 6-0 at flight two. Victoria Walter only dropped one game in her victory at flight six.
Maja Jekauc engineered a 6-3, 6-2 victory at flight three and Kate Earnhardt won 6-1, 6-4 at flight four to seal the victory.
The matches at flight one and five with Vullings and
Salma Abdelrahim went unfinished. Both matches were tied at a set apiece.
NEXT UP
The Privateers return home to face West Alabama on Thursday, Mar. 3. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
