NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (3-1) got out to a fast start and clinched early on their way to a 4-3 win over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks (0-4) on Sunday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers got started strong with the doubles point.
Ank Vullings and
Estelle Vanthier clinched early on as they secured a break to set the tone. Vullings and Vanthier saw out the rest of the match to a 6-3 win.
Lina Hohnhold and
Marthe Degeorges clinched the doubles point for the Privateers as they scored a 6-4 win at flight one.
Mar Gendra and
Salma Abdelrahim rallied from behind early to win 7-5 to sweep the doubles matches.
In singles, Degeorges was all business as she was the first off court after a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Hohnhold was up a double break in both sets as she coasted to a 6-2, 6-2, victory. Gendra finished the match as she got the fourth point for the Privateers.
Gendra served out to defeated Dariana Prato and give the Privateers their third consecutive victory.
The last three matches all went to 10-point third set tiebreaks which Jacksonville State prevailed in at flights one, two and five.
