Women's Tennis Wins Regular Season Finale vs. Xavier La.

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team made a solid closing statement in the regular season before heading to the Southland Tournament with a 4-1 win over the Xavier Gold Nuggets on Tuesday at the University Tennis Center.

PRE-MATCH
Six seniors: Ank Vullings, Lea Alguacil, Mar Gendra, Salma Abdelrahim, Lina Hohnhold and Estelle Vanthier were all honored before the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers wasted no time getting out on the front foot. Alguacil and Vullings made quick work of their opponents at flight two in a 6-0 victory. The same was said for Vanthier and Gendra who got out to a 5-2 lead.

After having their serve broken, the duo broke back to win the doubles point at flight three.

In singles, Xavier got a point after the Privateers had to forfeit flight six. However, it was all Xavier got on the day.

Gendra and Alguacil finished within minutes of each other. Alguacil swept through her opening set and won 6-0, 6-4 at flight five. Gendra won five consecutive games in the first set and cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at flight four.

It was a race to see who would clinch the match and it turned out to be Vullings. After not dropping a game in the first set, Vullings was in a stern battle in the second set. However, at 6-5, Vullings won the first two points off Juliette Finch's serve.

The service game got to deuce but Vullings prevailed after winning a 20-shot rally by producing a winner at the net.
Hohnhold was at match point when the Privateers clinched proceedings. Vanthier won a first set tiebreak and was at 2-2 in the second set.
