Vincent's First Career Double-Double, Stifling Defense Key Privateers Win

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (5-9, 2-1) overwhelmed the HCU Huskies (4-12, 1-2) from the start in an 82-59 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Lakefront Arena. Four Privateers hit double figures as New Orleans won their 11th consecutive home conference game.

It's the longest conference home winning streak since Tic Price guided the Privateers to 22 straight home conference wins from 1994 through 1997. That streak was extended to 23 in Joey Stiebing's first season (1997-98).

New Orleans shot 61.3 percent from the field in a highly efficient opening 20 minutes. Their defense was also stifling as the Huskies didn't break double digits on the scoreboard until just over four minutes left on the first half clock.

A lot of what the Privateers had going offensively was at the rim in the halfcourt and in transition. There were seven layups and three dunks in the first half. New Orleans also had an 11-0 advantage in fast break points.

Marquez Cooper's three from the corner beat the first half buzzer to put a bow on a first half that saw New Orleans carry a 43-16 lead into the locker room. The Huskies only made four field goals in 22 attempts.

HCU attempted to tighten up the game late as they cut the Privateer lead to 11 with 8:21 remaining. However, New Orleans was unfazed as they went on an ensuing 17-4 run that ended with two consecutive threes from Jordan Johnson.

INSIDE THE BOX
Omarion Henry neared a double-double with 18 points and eight boards. Johnson finished with 17 points and hit five three-pointers. In his two games against the Huskies, Johnson has knocked down 13 triples.

Jamond Vincent notched his first double-double as a Privateer with 10 points and 13 boards. K'Mani Doughty added 15 points.

The Huskies were led by Andrew King who finished with 15 points and nine boards. HCU was held to 33.3 percent from the field.
