NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans Privateers (2-5) hung around early but couldn't keep up with the sharpshooting Baylor Bears (5-2) on Wednesday afternoon, falling 91-60 at Foster Pavilion.
Dae Dae Hunter finished with career highs in scoring (18) and rebounding (7). The junior guard made six-of-10 3-point attempts with 10 of his 17 made 3-pointers this season coming in the last two games.
MJ Thomas added eight points on 3-of-4 shooting and seven rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench.
James White struggled from the field, shooting 2-of-12, but managed to finish with nine points, four rebounds, and a team-leading five assists. Eleven of the 12 Privateers that saw the floor scored against the Bears.Â
New Orleans had its second-best game of the season from beyond the arc (Kansas State, 41.3%), finishing 9-of-22 (40.9%). In addition to Hunter's six makes from deep,
Jah Short went 2-of-4, and
Theo Grant went 1-of-2.
Baylor guard Jayden Nunn knocked down six of his seven first-half 3-pointers, scoring 20 of his game-high 23 points and leading the Bears to a 50-23 halftime advantage. He finished with seven made 3-pointers – one shy of Sydney Grider of Louisiana, who hit eight against UNO in 1990 for the most by an individual against the Privateers.
The Bears finished the first half 18-of-33 from the field (54.5%) and 9-of-17 from beyond the arc. Overall, Baylor launched 33 three-point attempts and knocked down 15 - one shy of the most ever made against UNO by a team. Troy (2007), Portland (2022), and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (2023) nailed 16 behind the arc against New Orleans previously.
After the Thanksgiving break, New Orleans heads to Thibodaux, La for the Southland opener against Nicholls on Saturday, Dec. 7. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+, with free audio on UNOPrivateers.com. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
