Wilson-Rouse Scores 20, Johnson Scores 19 in Senior Night Defeat

BOX SCORE

NEW ORLEANS – The hot shooting Lamar Cardinals (14-11, 8-4 Southland) used strong efforts in the final minutes of the opening half and first few minutes of the second half to knock off the University of New Orleans Privateers (8-18, 3-10 Southland) by a score of 94-72 on Saturday evening at Lakefront Arena.

After a Khaleb Wilson-Rouse three pointer cut the Cardinal lead to 33-29 with just under five-and-a-half minutes to play in the first half, a quick seven points from Jakevion Buckley and a three pointer with under a minute to play from Chris Pryor gave Lamar its largest lead in the game to that point 45-35.

Jordan Johnson's desperation three went awry but the senior was fouled giving him three attempts at the line to cut into the double-digit deficit. Unfortunately, only one of those free throws were converted, leaving the Privateers behind 45-36 at the break.

A layup by Adam Hamilton, a three pointer by Terry Anderson and two more threes from B.B Knight extended Lamar's lead to 56-39 and forced a UNO timeout with 18:11 to go in the second half. New Orleans would get no closer than 16 points the rest of the way. The Cardinals finished the game shooting 58.9% from the floor (37-of-65) including 11-of-23 from three.

On senior night, Khaleb Wilson-Rouse had perhaps his best night at Lakefront Arena leading the Privateers with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Wilson-Rouse knocked down three triples, pulled down three rebounds, and had two assists before fouling out late in the contest after playing 34 hard minutes. Tonight marked his fourth 20-point game of the season, and fifth during his time at UNO.

Despite making just 5-of-17 from the floor Johnson poured in another 19 points for the Privateers. Johnson made three triples and knocked down 6-of-10 free throws with five assists in just over 35 minutes of play on Saturday.

D'Ante Bell, James Glisson III, Tyson Jackson, Kaleb Jenkins, Johnson, and Wilson-Rouse were all honored prior to the game during senior night festivities. Glisson, a graduate student, earned his first start since November and finished with a season-high 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.

Jenkins played 11 minutes and finished with four points after making his only field goal attempt and a pair of free throws. Jackson finished with two points and two rebounds, while Bell saw three and a half minutes of action with one rebound and one steal.

Hamilton led the scoring for Lamar with 16 points on a perfect 8-of-8 from the floor. The junior center also finished with six rebounds and three assists.

The Privateers return to action on Monday night when the Nicholls Colonels (13-12, 8-4 Southland) make the short trip to Lakefront Arena. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. The game can be viewed on ESPN+, heard on NASH Icon 106.1 FM, or at nashfm1061.com.
