Kouchnareva, Dechoux Earn Singles Wins Against Tulane

NEW ORLEANSAnastassia Kouchnareva and Tristanne Dechoux picked up singles wins and Laurie Barendse commenced a rally but the Tulane Green Wave took a 4-2 decision over the New Orleans Privateers on Monday at City Park Tennis Courts.

Kouchnareva and Dechoux finished within minutes of each other as both won their matches in straight sets.

Kouchnareva outlasted Mackenzie Clark in the first set 6-4. After Kouchnareva earned an early break, Clark got a service break back to cut the deficit to 3-2. However, Kouchnareva was not to be denied as she broke Clark's serve twice to take three consecutive games in winning her match.

At flight three, Dechoux gained early momentum in both sets against Kristen Borland. After a 6-4 first set, Dechoux raced out to an early 3-1 lead. Borland broke Dechoux's serve to cut the deficit to 3-2 but Tristanne broke right back to gain the advantage. After a key service hold to make it 5-2, Tristanne held her serve to win the match 6-4, 6-3.

Barendse was up against a tough opponent in Lahari Yelamanchili. After Barendse lost the first set, she was down a double break at 5-2. That's when Barendse started the comeback. She broke Yelamanchili's serve twice and held her own serve twice in the same span to take a 6-5 lead in the second set. That's when the match was stopped because Tulane had earned their fourth point of the day at flight six.

The Green Wave earned doubles wins at flight one and three to open the day. In singles, Brook Theis was the first off court after winning 6-2, 6-1 at flight five. Cora Barber won her match 6-3, 6-4 at flight four. Jiayun Zhu had to take a medical timeout up a set and 5-1 but she won her next service game to close out the win for the Green Wave.
