Men's Tennis Rallies From Early Deficit to Defeat Bryant

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team pulled off a tremendous rally to come from an early deficit in a 4-2 win over the Bryant Bulldogs on Thursday at the McFarlin Tennis Center.

Luke Joujan and Sergi Tintore both commenced rallies from down 5-2 in the first set. They both forced tiebreaks which they eventually won. Joujan gained an early break against Augustin Suarez but Suarez broke Joujan's serve. However, Luke found a way through Suarez's serve again at 5-3 and did not relent as he held serve in the next game to earn a point.

Tintore rallied from down a double break against Myles Peterson and used that momentum to grab an early lead in the second set. Ahead 5-2, Tintore was serving for the match and the true freshman persevered for a straight set victory against Peterson who went 11-5.

It was a key part of a rally from losing the first point of the day. Bryant won matches at courts two and three to take the opening point of the match. That momentum bled into the very beginning of singles as Daniel Baquero won 6-2, 6-0 at flight six to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead in the match.

Matthew Armbruster also picked up a singles point as he picked up early service breaks in both sets. Armbruster broke Jose Davila's serve in the first game of the opening set and accrued a 5-2 lead in the second set. After Davila held serve, Armbruster served out for the match.

The deciding point was won by the Southland Player of the Year in Marcel Volz. After he lost the first set to Otakar Ungerman, Volz came back and dominated the second set. He got an early break in the third set and stayed strong on serve throughout the remainder of the set as he propelled the Privateers to a semi-final match against 2-seed, NJIT.
