NATCHITOCHES, La. – The New Orleans Privateers started hot but the second half belonged to the Northwestern State Demons as they defeated the Privateers 73-61 on Monday afternoon at Prather Coliseum.
The Demons trailed by nine points at the start of the second half but poked their heads in front on an Addison Patterson layup with 13:58 remaining. It was their first lead since the 10:06 mark of the first half.
New Orleans tied the score at 49-49 on a
James White fast break dunk with 9:25 left, but the Demons held the Privateers to just one point for the next seven minutes of game action. Northwestern State pulled away to victory on the strength of shooting 56.7 percent from the field in the second half. The Demons also out-rebounded the Privateers 47-30.
Both teams trudged through a low scoring first four minutes as the Demons led the Privateers 6-3 at the first media timeout.
From there, New Orleans settled in behind full court pressure and the scoring of Jamond Vincent. The senior guard went off for 20 points in the first half and had two steals that helped ignite an 11-0 run to give the Privateers a 10-point lead at the 7:57 mark of the first half.
New Orleans forced seven Demon turnovers and had 11 points off those miscues. They also had 16 points on the fast break. The Privateers also held the Demons to just 32.3 percent from the field and carried a 36-27 lead into the half.
Patterson was one of three in double figures for Northwestern State with 17 points. He also pulled down 11 rebounds.
INSIDE THE BOX
Vincent finished with 24 points on the day and added four rebounds. White had 19 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Jah Short finished with six points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
MJ Thomas had six points and five boards.
