NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team lost some tough battles in a 4-0 defeat to the Troy Trojans on Saturday morning at the Privateer Tennis Center.
Troy started the day by snagging the first point with a win in doubles. Valeriia Avdeeva and Maria Guirguis won by a double break at flight one. Hagar Ramadan-Amin and Leena Metwally followed by earning a single break in a 6-4 victory to secure the doubles point. The Privateers were ahead 5-4 at flight two when the doubles point was decided.
In singles, the Trojans earned points at flight two, four and six.
Avdeeva secured a 6-2, 6-1 win. Guirguis won 6-4, 6-3 at flight two. Then Emilia Namyslo persevered through a long second set to score a 6-2, 7-5 victory.
The Privateers were in battles in the other three courts.
Anastassia Kouchnareva won the first set in a tiebreak against Gabrielle Leslie.
Kateryna Kalistratova rebounded from a first set that she lost 6-2 and was ahead 5-4 in the second set.
Iris Danne was locked in a fierce battle with Amin that went to a first set tiebreak. Amin won that tiebreak and the two were ready to start the second set when the match was decided.
