NEW ORLEANS – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders got control from the doubles point and defeated the New Orleans Privateers 6-1 on Tuesday at the Privateer Tennis Center.
The Islanders got points from court two and three in doubles. Ana Veroux and Adriana Jimenez scored a 6-0 victory. The clinching point was achieved after Leticia Tarocco and Josefa Fuenzalida saved two break points on their last service game on their way to a 6-4 win.
In singles,
Anastassia Kouchnareva had a strong match to score the lone point for the Privateers. Kouchnareva beat Veroux 6-1, 6-3 as she broke serve to finish off the match and her fourth win of the season.
The remainder of the singles matches went the Islanders' way. Kseniya Ramanouskaya did not concede a game in her 6-0, 6-0 victory at flight five. Jimenez separated in the middle of the first set and won 6-2, 6-2.
The clinching point was earned by Fuenzalida who won eight games in a row to finish her match 6-3, 6-0.
Yana Mykytyn and
Fleur Sprengers were locked in an intense battle that went to a third set 10-point tiebreak, but Mykytyn prevailed 2-6, 6-3, 10-5. The day closed with Tarocco winning her match 6-4, 6-1.
