NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team got two wins in singles but were defeated 5-2 on the day by the College of Charleston Cougars on Sunday afternoon at the Privateer Tennis Center.
A fierce battle started the day in doubles. After Charleston got a 6-1 victory at flight three, the other two matches were hotly contested. The Cougars' flight two pair of Isabella De Luise and Jaiden McKee got a late service break to win 6-3. With the doubles point sealed, the last match saw
Nouray Khaled and
Kateryna Kalistratova rally from down a double break early to tie the set at 4-4.
However, the Cougars pair of Oziera Ahmad and Riley Trinkle got a late break of their own to hold for a 7-5 win.
The Cougars won the first four matches to finish and clinched the match early but the top of the Privateers' rotation both grabbed points.
College of Charleston won all matches at flight three through six in straight sets. McKee won 6-1, 6-1 and Trinkle won 6-0, 6-2 to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead. The clinching point was won by Olivia Bull when she took a 6-2, 6-3 decision.
Kalistratova and
Fleur Sprengers both snatched wins for the Privateers on the day.
Sprengers went to a third set against Sia Cariov and pushed through the third set to win 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. Kalistratova rallied from a set down to take her match. In a 10-point tiebreak in the third set, Kalistratova won 10-8 over Francesca Salvato.
