Men's Tennis Gets Out to Early Lead, Tops Southern

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers got out to a quick 3-0 lead and secured a victory with Jerall Yasin at flight six earning the clinching point in a 5-2 win against the Southern Jaguars on Tuesday at the Privateer Tennis Center.

The Privateers picked up wins at flight two and three in doubles to set the tone early on a muggy afternoon. Carlos Melgosa and Beltran Fernandez notched a 6-3 win. Peter Kieslinger and Yasin also scored a victory, winning by a double break to secure the first point of the day.

Once it got to singles, the Privateers' top two flights got off the court in short order.

Jacob Rouleau-Mailly only conceded one game in his victory over Sebastien Byng. Fernandez got out to a big early lead in both sets and coasted to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at flight two over Mpho Lesheole.

The Jaguars got on the board with Zachery Byng who won a long tiebreak in the first set before taking the second by a double break in a 7-6 (7), 6-2 win.

However, it was Yasin who finished the proceedings for the Privateers. He secured a late service break and held serve to win over Emmanuel Oudensi 6-2, 6-3 and give the Privateers their eighth win of the season.

With the match secured, the Jaguars earned their second point with a comeback win from  Jaime Sigauque who came back from a set down to win a 10-point tiebreak 5-7 , 6-4, 10-5.

The Privateers closed out the day with Melgosa who prevailed in a grueling second set tiebreak to win 6-3, 7-6 (7).
