BEAUMONT, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team saw their season come to an end on Sunday in a 4-0 loss against the McNeese Cowgirls at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
The Privateers' flight one doubles pair of
Fleur Sprengers and
Danique Vermue were in control of their match, leading 5-2. However, McNeese took the other two doubles matches by a score of 6-0 at flight two and 6-1 at flight three to earn the first point of the day.
In singles, the Cowgirls only conceded six games in their three singles victories to seal the decision and advance them into the semifinals.
Stella Rundova won 6-1, 6-0 at flight three. Erica Hagi finished right behind her with a 6-1, 6-1 win at flight five. The deciding point was taken by Ana Hollweg who won 6-1, 6-2 at flight four.
The Privateers were up a set with Sprengers who won her first set 6-3 against Salome Fluri. The second set saw Fluri ahead 5-4.
Kateryna Kalistratova took a 4-1 lead in the second set after losing the first to Alexa Martinez.
Elena Morales won the first set for McNeese at flight six by a score of 6-4 and the second set was tied at 2-2 when the match was decided.
