Biography

Jason Plotkin is beginning his fourth year at the University of New Orleans and first as Director of Media Relations in 2010-11. Plotkin was elevated to his current post in June 2010 after serving three years as the program's assistant sports information director.

In his current role, Plotkin is the primary media contact for all nine Privateer sports, manages the day-to-day operations of the media relations office, runs the UNOPrivateers.com web site and oversees game day operations for UNO home athletic events.

During Plotkin's three years as the assistant SID, he served as the primary contact for women’s basketball, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis and volleyball. Plotkin also handled primary baseball duties during the 2010 season, while serving as the Host Media Coordinator for the 2010 Sun Belt Conference Tennis Championships held at the University Tennis Center.

The Houston, Texas native came to UNO after working as the athletic director at the Jewish Community Center of New Orleans, where he oversaw youth and adult sports programming, as well as the NOJCC.com web site for the non-profit center.

Plotkin is no stranger to serving in a sports information role in the Crescent City. In 2005, Plotkin was named Dillard University’s first-ever full-time sports information director prior to the impact of Hurricane Katrina.

As an undergraduate student at Sam Houston State, Plotkin worked three years as a student assistant in the sports information department under longtime SID Paul Ridings. Additionally, he has worked in numerous gameday statistical capacities with schools including Loyola (N.O.), Tulane, Texas Southern, Houston and Rice.

Plotkin is a 2005 graduate of SHSU, earning a degree in radio/television with an emphasis on public relations and promotions. An active member on campus, he was a member of the Student Government Association and served on various University committees. In 2005, Plotkin was awarded the Creager Memorial Award, given to the "Most Outstanding Senior Male" on campus.

Plotkin married the former Aliza Herman in January 2008. The couple resides in New Orleans.
