Back for his second official stint with the Athletics Communications staff in October of 2018 Chip rejoined the staff to help with audio and video content video content as well maintenance of UNOPrivateers.com and the historical archives of Privateers athletics.

Originally joining Athletics Communications in 2013. His primary responsibilities were audio, video, and graphic design within the department. This includes producing high-definition webstreams for UNOPrivateers.com of home baseball, men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball, as well as organizing and running the videoboards at Lakefront Arena, and Maestri Field.

When not dealing with audio or video, Chip generally handled graphic design requests within the department, including media guides, game notes and graphics for UNOPrivateers.com and New Orleans Privateers social media accounts and was the primary contact for the men’s and women’s cross country programs for the 2014 season..

No stranger to the Lakefront, Chip has been a near constant part of Privateers home games since 2009, first starting off working scoreboard at volleyball games, before being moved to music during basketball season and videoboard during the 2010 baseball season.  He took the lead in bringing web streaming of Privateers home events back from a short hiatus during the 2011 season, and has since upgraded those streams to high-definition.

Leaving the department in February of 2015 to take the role of Communications Manager for the Arena Football League's New Orleans VooDoo he was instrumental in the planning and launch of a brand new team website, as well as helping launch the only active team specific mobile app in the league. During his seven months with the franchise VooDoo were constantly praised for the quality of their website, press box, game notes and radio broadcasts by league officials, local media, and staff of other teams around the league.

Since 2012 he has been in charge of the videoboard content at the Shrine on Airline for the New Orleans Zephyrs/Babycakes.  In his free time he also works for Crescent City Sports and Cox Sports Television filling a variety of roles including producer, graphics operator, and statistician during their broadcasts of high school basketball, baseball, bowling football, volleyball, and wrestling.

In the past, Chip has done freelance reporting  for Crescent City Sports (formerly sportsNOLA.com) and Ken Trahan’s “Prep Original” radio show on WGSO 990AM,

Chip Merritt is a 2006 graduate of the University of Mississippi with a B.A in Philosophy and currently resides in Metairie.
