Petrovic Honored by Sun Belt as Conference Swimmer of the Week

NEW ORLEANS - University of New Orleans swimmer Petar Petrovic waas tabbed as the Sun Belt Conference's Male Swimmer of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon.

One of the conference's top backstroke swimmers, Petrovic went head-to-head against No. 17 LSU as UNO participated in the LSU Swimming and
Diving Invite this past weekend.

The native of Serbia came out on top not once, but twice as he won the 100 and 200 back events against the nationally ranked Tigers. Petrovic won the 100 back in a time of 50.48 on Friday night before following it up with a 200 back win in a time of 1:50.81 on Saturday afternoon.

Petrovic's time in the 200 back was the second fastest time in school history.

The addition of Petrovic's honor brings the team's total for conference awards this year to 10, after just have two conference award winners during the team's previous four years of existence.

The Privateer swimming and diving team will next participate in the SBC Championship meet in Nashville, Tenn. The meet begins on Feb. 18 and runs through Feb. 21.
