Amani Larry | Baseball Amani Larry
Amani has been having a spectacular season that included a Southland Player of the Week honor. The starting second baseman is hitting .358 and is 51st nationally in runs scored with 46. He has been in on 38 of the team's 44 double plays, a number that ranks 2nd in the country.

Anai Esarte | Beach Volleyball Ania Esarte
Within Ania's first year with the Privateers, she played at court one for Beach Volleyball. Esarte and partner Lucie Pokorna  went 27-6 at No. 1 to break the school record for most wins in a single season. They are ranked #4 Top NCAA Top Pair with an 81.8 percent win percentage.

Ismael Kone | Runs a 10.03 at the Texas Relays Ismael Kone
In a prestigious meet at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, Ismael showed out against some of the top collegiate sprinters in the country. He followed a 10.10 in the preliminaries with a school record 10.03 in the finals which placed him 3rd in the 100.

Alexandra Weir | Winning the Southland Indoor Mile | Interview Alexandra Weir
Alexandra had a strong performance in the Southland Indoor Championships with three podium finishes. That included a win in the mile where Weir sprinted away from the competition at the bell lap. She competed the same day in the 3000 and finished second.

Jorge has never missed a workout session and is known for regularly coming to the weight room on his off days to get more training. With the desire to always improve, he consistently looks to be coached on the field and especially in the weight room.

Maxine Walsh Hayes | Beach Volleyball | Interview Maxine Walsh
Senior Maxine is the captain of the Beach Volleyball team and a member of the indoor volleyball team. Throughout her career as an athlete, she's been known for her hard work in the weight room, and her ability to motivate her entire team into always giving more. Even through injury, Max would consult with the athletic trainer to make sure her workouts were modified.

Elliott Cummings | Men's Track and Field Elliott Cummings

Elliott, a junior, strained his hamstring last year causing him to miss the entire indoor track and field season.  Determined to get back on track, Elliott was diligent in his recovery and rest and has made a big return to outdoor track. His top 12 ranking in the NCAA eastern region qualified him for regionals where he narrowly missed punching his ticket to nationals in the 100m.

Taylore Louviere | Beach Volleyball Taylore Louviere
Taylore, is half of the court five pair for beach volleyball.,. After being diagnosed with a sacral osteoblastoma Taylore missed a year of athletic participation. Since returning to the team, Taylore has spent many hours in the training room every week, working on mobility, strength, and pain management. Taylore, we are truly inspired by your determination and will to recover

Marcel Vols | Men's Tennis | Interview Marcel Volz
Marcel won the first Conference Player of the Year honor for the Privateers men's tennis team when he earned the honor this spring. Playing at Flight 1 throughout the year, Marcel won 24 matches (12 singles, 12 doubles). Congratulations!

Lina had an excellent career on the Lakefront including a 26-3 career record in singles over two seasons. This year, the First Team All-Southland selection won 15 consecutive singles matches heading into the conference tournament.

In one of the longest points of the season, the Privateers prevailed through 49 grueling seconds. There were 5 digs during the spirited rally before Trinity Jackson put the point away on a kill.

Max Heinzel Clinches the Southland Championship | Interview
Coming down to the wire, Max secured a big service break in the deciding match of the tennis championship to go up 5-3. On the changeover, Max held with two big serves to go up 40-15. The deciding point was won when a cross court forehand forced a short ball return that turned into a winner and a Southland title.

Troy Green | Men's Basketball Troy Green vs. AMCCPearce Howard
Troy capped off a season and career filled with highlights as he finished in the top 5 in program history in games played, points, free throws made, steals and assists. He was named First Team All-Southland and ranked in the top 10 in the conference in 7 categories this year. Congratulations, Troy.

Arina Kleshchukova | Women's Cross Country & Track and Field | Interview Arina Kleschuvoka - Texas Aggie Invitational
A decorated career on the course saw Arina finish on the podium at the Southland Cross Country Championships for the second time after finishing 3rd last fall. In her Privateer career, Arina has finished in the top three in 11 cross country races and was a qualifier for Nationals in 2019.

Men's Tennis | Interview  Southland Championship Men's Tennis Celebration
Against a tough schedule that featured three nationally ranked opponents, the Privateers went 16-6 for the season. They started out fast with the best start in school history by winning their 1st 8 matches of the year.  They also closed strong by defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi twice this year including in the championship we hosted here at the Privateer Tennis Center.

Women's Cross Country | Interview 2021 Southland Conference Runner Up
The cross country team finished second in three different meets and battled to the end with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with only one point separating the two teams in the Southland Championships. The team also finished second in the LSU Invitational and the Blazer Classic and turned in a top 10 finish at the South Central Regionals.

Thomas Artigas | Golf Thomas Artigas
Tommy is concluding his second season as a Privateer golf student-athlete. Majoring in Finance with a 3.9 GPA, Tommy was named All-Southland Academic Second Team following the 2020-2021 season. His consistency and hard work in the classroom show his commitment to his academic future.

Liz is a 3.29 GPA Business Administration major playing at court four for Privateers Beach Volleyball. She is a very active SAAC representative, and she is on track to graduate early. Her hard work and tunnel vision focus proves her commitment to her academic future.

Men's Tennis Southland Championship Men's Tennis Celebration
Last fall, the Men's Tennis team had a 3.746 GPA. The highest amongst all male teams. Not only were they winners on the court but also in the classroom.

Women's Tennis had a 3.875 last semester. As a team, they only had 1 B.

Derek St. Hilaire | Men's Basketball Derek St. Hilaire 2021-22 Head
Derrick is 3.0 GPA student-athlete earning his master's degree in Higher Education Administration and is set to graduate this summer. The Atlanta native led the Privateers to an 18-14 record this season, the most wins since 2019. The 1st Team All-Southland selection scored 20.1 points per game - 17th best in the NCAA – with 22 games of 20-plus points this season.

Jomyra Mathis | Women's Basketball Jomyra Mathis
Jomyra is a 3.66 GPA student-athlete earning her master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. She graduated Magna Cum Laude as an undergrad before transferring to UNO to finish her collegiate athletic career. Earning Third Team honors after finishing in the top 10 in scoring, assists and steals.   She also surpassed her career high in points twice last season.

Jacob is a pitcher and graduating senior majoring in Human Performance and Health Promotion. A current 4.0. student and SAAC representative, Jacob plans to enroll in a post graduate program. He has already been nominated for multiple post-graduate scholarships.

Shamarah Shannon | Women's Track and Field | Interview Shannon, Shamarah
Shamarah, A 3.28 GPA student-athlete majoring in Human Performance and Health Promotion, is on the track and field team. She is president of SAAC and has led several community service efforts to include Hurricane Ida Relief, supporting local businesses and volunteering for Education Day.

Amber is the Student Government Association President and a member of inaugural New Orleans Pom team. Aside from her obligations on the university spirit teams, Amber truly loves UNO. She has put blood, sweat, and tears into representing this university, spreading encouragement and school spirit, and advocating on behalf of all students in the university.
