Daniel Populus posted the first win of his collegiate career in a big way on Sunday night.
In a match featuring a pair of Louisiana prep players who have gone on to play collegiate tennis, Populus defeated John Michaelis 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 6 singles' position. The win was the lone victory on the day for the Privateer men's tennis team against No. 29 ranked LSU - a program that upset No. 13 Texas A&M earlier in the day.
The victory was the first for Populus after dropping four previous matches, including two during the dual season. A freshman from Denham Springs, La., Populus prepped at Parkview Baptist, where he reached the Louisiana 3A State Championship finals in 2011.
