NEW ORLEANS - The University of New
Orleans defeated Louisiana-Monroe 3-0 (30-23, 30-14, 30-22) on Saturday
afternoon to continue their success against Sun Belt foes from the
Pelican State.
UNO (14-12, 8-5 SBC) was led by Dobrilla
Kovacevic who had 16 kills and Lindsey Loyd who added 11. Cassidy
Asebroek led the Privateer offense with 22 assists.
On the defensive end with the Privateers
participating in "Dig for the Cure", the team totaled 57 digs. Nicky
Valenti led UNO with 18 digs while Kovacevic and Asebroek added 11 and
10, respectively.
ULM (0-25, 0-13 SBC) was led by
Stephanie Hall and Ilima Sam Fong who had eight kills apiece. Fong had
17 assists while Christy Tribble had 11 digs to lead the Warhawks.
Down 20-17 in the third game, the
Privateers rallied back winning 13 of the final 15 points to close out
the Warhawks despite hitting just .061 in the final game.
The second game saw UNO open up with a
12-3 run as the Privateer offense hit .406 for the game led by six
kills from Kovacevic and five from Loyd as the Privateers cruised to a
30-14 second game win.
In the opening game, the Privateers
opened up a 8-8 game with an 11-4 run powered by Kovacevic who had
seven kills giving the Privateers a strong start.
The Privateers will hit the road for two
matches beginning with a Nov. 2 tilt against Denver followed by a Nov.
4 match against North Texas.
