It was just the second non-conference road win in three seasons for NSU (2-6). The win also snapped a five-game losing skid.
Bo McCalebb led UNO (4-1) with a game-high 27 points, including an 8-of-9 night from the free-throw line. The school's all-time leading scorer was the only Privateer to score more than seven points.
The Colonels never trailed in the game and never led by less than six after the 3:40 mark of the first half.
NSU, which shot 61.9 percent in the second half, held UNO to a 36 percent night. The Privateers were just 7-for-26 from the 3-point line. UNO was 1-for-12 from beyond the arc in the first half.
The two teams combined for 45 turnovers, with UNO committing a season-high 24 miscues.
UNO was trying to start 5-0 for the first time since the 2002-03 season.
