UNO Bounces Back With Easy Win Over Alcorn State

BILOXI, Miss. -- What a difference a day makes.

Less than 24 hours after its worst loss of the season, the University of New Orleans basketball team cruised to a 103-74 win over Alcorn State in second-day action of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic on Wednesday.

Bo McCalebb scored 23 points and was 8-for-10 from the field, as UNO (8-2) bounced back from a 22-point loss to Southern Mississippi on Tuesday.

T.J. Worley had 16 points, while Ben Elias got out of a mini-slump with a career-high 15 points and 10 rebounds. James Parlow had 13 points, and Kechan Myers had 11.

UNO shot 56 percent from the field and was 10-for-14 from the 3-point arc.

The Privateers also got a season-high 45 bench points after tallying a season-low three points on Tuesday.

UNO, which got out-rebounded 42-25 in the USM loss, had a 39-30 board advantage (15-11 offensive).

Richard Griffin led Alcorn State (1-9) with a game-high 24 points.

It was the first time UNO scored 100 points in a game since Nov. 19, 2005.

"I was really happy with the way we bounced back," said UNO head coach Joe Pasternack. "The guys took  (Tuesday's) loss personally and they did a great job."

The Privateers were never threatened, scoring 26 of the game's first 32 points. UNO raced out to a 14-4 lead three minutes into the game and never led by less than 10 the rest of the way.

The Privateers led by as many as 31 points in the second half.

UNO will wrap up the three-day event with a 6 p.m. contest tomorrow night against Louisiana Tech.
