NEW ORLEANS ? Delaware overcome a tough loss in the match's second game to remain undefeated in 2007 following a 3-1 win (30-20, 29-31, 30-17, 30-22) over host-New Orleans on Saturday at the Four Points by Sheraton Invitational.
The Blue Hens (7-0) got 18 kills and a .351 hitting percentage from tournament MVP Michelle LaLonde, and Colleen Walsh added 21 kills. All-tournament honoree Stephanie Barry helped the Delaware defense with a match-high 30 digs.
UNO (3-4) recorded 87 digs, led by 20 from all-tournament libero Nicky Valenti. Lindsey Loyd and Lindsey Boler each tallied 15 kills, though UNO hit just .076 for the day.
After Delaware cruised to a win in game one, the Privateers overcame two game points in the second set en route to a 31-29 win. The Blue Hens, though, took control in the third thanks to an 8-0 run that stretched a 21-17 advantage.
The Blue Hens defeated Nicholls State 3-0 (30-13, 30-25, 30-17) in the first match of the day. UNO defeated Alcorn State 3-0 (30-10, 30-18, 30-13) earlier on Saturday. NSU claimed the third-place match with a 3-0 win (30-16, 30-23, 30-15) over ASU.
UNO will get back in action on Friday with a two-day tournament at TCU.
