NEW ORLEANS – A combined total of 26
home games dot the 2009-10 UNO men's and women's basketball schedules, which
were released on Tuesday.
Both the men's and women's teams
will play 13 home games along with a few road games against some of the top
programs in the country.
The men's team will play three of
its first four games at home, including non-conference tilts against
Southern-New Orleans (Nov. 19), Texas State (Nov. 21) and Mobile (Nov. 25).
The Privateers will open the season
on Nov. 13 at Georgia and
will end the month with a Nov. 29 contest at North Carolina State.
Other non-conference games include a
home game against Houston Baptist (Dec. 5) and road contests at cross-town rival
Tulane (Dec. 2), Southern (Dec. 12) and the South Mississippi Christmas Classic
(Dec. 21 through 23).
UNO will face Southern Miss, North
Florida and Canisius during the three-day event in Biloxi.
The Privateers will kick off Sun
Belt Conference play on Dec. 14 at home against Florida Atlantic. The 18-game
SBC schedule will have UNO at home nine times, including a Jan. 2 matchup
against Florida International.
The Golden Panthers are coached by
NBA Hall of Fame standout Isiah Thomas.
The Lady Privateers, meanwhile, will
face another competitive slate. UNO will play five games against teams that
reached the postseason last year, including two at home.
The team, which opens the season on
Nov. 14 at McNeese State, will play November home games against
Nicholls
State (Nov. 18) and 2009
WNIT participant SMU (Nov. 21).
UNO will wrap up the month at the
Colorado Coors Classic – one of two in-season tournaments. The Lady Privateers
will also co-host the Big Easy Classic on Dec. 4 and 5.
The Lady Privateers will host 2009
NCAA tourney selection Prairie View A&M on Dec. 4, before playing Longwood
on Dec. 5 at Tulane.
UNO will also travel to LSU, which
reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament, on Dec. 13.
The Lady Privateers will open league
play on Dec. 16 at home against Florida Atlantic, with 2009 NCAA participant
Middle Tennessee coming to town on Dec.
30.
The men's and women's teams will
play five Saturday doubleheaders during the year (Nov. 21, Jan. 2, Jan. 23 and
Feb. 6 and Feb. 20).
