Reed's Record Night Leads UALR over UNO

NEW ORLEANS - UALR junior forward Chastity Reed made the most of the final hometown appearance of her career by breaking several records with a 43 point outing in a 79-62 win over the University of New Orleans at Lakefront Arena on Wednesday night.

Reed's performance topped her previous school-record of 42 points scored in a December win for UALR (12-5, 5-1 Sun Belt) against ULM, while also topping UNO great Sandra Hodge's Lakefront Arena record of 41 points scored in the first game held at the facility on Nov. 26, 1983.

The point total also eclipsed former WNBA and Southwestern Louisiana's Kim Perrot 41 points for a player in a game against UNO (7-11, 1-6 SBC).

Kim Sitzmann and Shanika Butler joined Reed in double-figures with 16 points and 11 points, respectively.

The loss for the Lady Privateers was their eighth in their last 10 contests.

Brittany Helm scored 17 points on 8 of 15 shooting to lead UNO. Freshmen Tiffina' Bennett and Juanita Cochran contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Lady Privateers shot 50.9 percent from the field, topping the 50 percent mark in each half.

After her 24-point effort in the first half, Reed started where she left off by scoring 10 of the first 12 points as UALR pushed their nine-point halftime advantage to 15 points at 53-38.

A Sitzmann three-pointer was the next shot to fall as the Trojans scored 14 of 20 points and watched their lead grow to 67-44. The Sitzmann three-pointer began a 12-point half for the guard, after scoring just four points in the first half.

UNO trailed 41-32 at the half, despite shooting 14 of 27 from the field for a 51.9 percent clip.

The Lady Privateers jumped ahead of their foes 15-9 after an 8-0 run in which the Trojans missed all four of their field goal attempts.

The teams would trade baskets before UALR responded to UNO by going on an 11-2 run to take a 27-23 lead. The Trojans would not relinquish the lead through the end of the half, capitalizing on a 15 of 17 opening half performance from the charity stripe.

The Lady Privateers will take a week off before heading down I-10 to Louisiana-Lafayette for a Jan. 20 contest against the Ragin' Cajuns. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip and will be available on UNO Vision.
