NEW ORLEANS - Billy Humphrey and Charles Carmouche combined for 47 points, and New Orleans held FIU scoreless for the final 7:04 as the Privateers took a 68-58 win on Saturday afternoon at Lakefront Arena.
Humphrey had 29 points - 17 in the first half - and Carmouche had 18 as UNO (6-9, 1-3 Sun Belt Conference) snapped a seven-game losing streak.
The duo combined to outscore FIU (4-13, 1-3) 32-30 in the first half and helped the Privateers grab as much as a 17-point lead during the frame.
But the Golden Panthers, coached by former NBA great Isiah Thomas, scored the final six points of the half to cut the margin to 41-30 at the break.
FIU continued the rally in the second half, scoring the first eight points to cut the lead to 41-38 with 17:59 remaining.
The Golden Panthers, who never led, finally tied it at 58-58 on a Steven Miro 3-pointer with 7:04 to play.
But FIU went 0-for-8 from the field the rest of the way.
Marvin Roberts and Marlon Bright each had 13 points for FIU, and Antoine Watson had 11.
The Privateers, who were 14-for-16 from the free throw line, out-rebounded FIU 36-24.
UNO will continue Sun Belt action on Thursday with an 8 p.m. CT matchup at Denver.
