Regular Season Comes to Close in UNO Dual Loss to No. 17 LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - The University of New Orleans men's swimming and diving program posted several season-bests in closing out a two-day dual by falling 224-108 to No. 17 LSU on Saturday afternoon.

Jonas Grundstrom and Mark Schindler highlighted the season-bests by UNO.

Grundstrom finished second in the 500 free with a time of 4:38.92, topping his previous team season-best time of 4:39.22 from Nov. 6, 2009 agains tIncarnate Word. The time was also the third-fastest in school history.

Schindler followed suit with a second-place finish in the 100 breast, clocking a 57.54. Schindler's previous best on the year came at the Delta State Christmas Invitational in December, when he timed out at 57.76.

In the 200 free relay, the team of Ash Dougan, Jarryd Gregoire, Birkir Mar Jonsson and Kevin Tinney swam the second-fastest time in school history and the fastest this year with a 1:26.18.

Rounding out the top performers as Dominick Butts-Ealy in the 1-meter dive. Butt-Ealy's six-dive score of 295.87 was his second-highest of the season, as he once more narrowly missed a chance to join teammates Jonathan Field and Johnny DeMaine in qualifying for NCAA regionals.

The dual against LSU closes out the regular season for the Privateers, who will now turn to their attention to the Sun Belt Conference Championships, which begins Feb. 17 in Nashville, Tenn.
