DELHI, India - University of New Orleans swimmer Jarryd Gregoire will
begin competition in the Commonwealth Games on Monday as a member of the
Trinidad and Tobago national team.
Gregoire arrived last week in India and was joined this week by UNO head swimming and diving coach James Winchester, who was invited to assist with the Trinidad and Tobago national coaching staff.
The first event for the junior is the 400 free relay event, which will occur Monday. Gregoire's Trinidad and Tobago relay unit is currently scheduled to compete in heat one against Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, Guernsey and Papua New Guinea.
Gregoire will compete in one event each day with the exception of Friday, taking part in the 50 fly (Tuesday, heat No. 5), 100 free (Wednesday, heat No. 4), the 100 fly (Thursday, heat No. 4) and rounding out competition on Saturday in the 400 medley relay.
Each event's prelims will take place earlier in the day with finals towards the conclusion of the day's competition.
Held every four years, the Commonwealth Games are the third largest multi-sport event in the world after the Summer Olympic Games and the Asian Games. The Games feature the 54 members of the Commonwealth of Nations in addition to several British overseas territories.
All swimming events will take place at the recently-opened SPM Swimming Pool Complex.
