Privateers Fall 4-0 to UAB to Complete Birmingham Trip

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the second straight day, weather conditions moved the University of New Orleans men's tennis team indoors and like the previous day, the results were the same in a 4-0 loss to UAB at Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion on Saturday night.

Head coach Burzis Kanga's squad played with just five players, allowing UAB (4-2) to win by walkover at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles over UNO (0-2).

The Blazers finished off the doubles' point when Daniel Moser and David Zimmermann defeated Guilherme Rebolo and Ben Smith 8-5, bringing a halt to the No. 1 match, which was not necessary.

Two matches away from a dual victory, UAB picked up straight set victories at No. 2 and No. 3.

Zimmerman defeated Benjamin Bouhana 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 and Dan Cornei followed suit with a 6-2, 7-5 decision over Smith. With the dual in hand, the remainder of the matches were called off.

UNO will get to take advantage of a week off before returning to the court on Feb. 20 against Tulane in a dual scheduled for a 12 p.m. start. The match, which will take place at the Goldring Tennis Center, will be the first between the crosstown rivals since pre-Katrina.
