WILMINGTON, N.C. - The University of New Orleans opened a two-match trip
with a 6-1 loss to Drake on a neutral court at UNC-Wilmington on Friday
morning.
Drake (10-6) won for the eighth time in their last 10 matches while UNO (2-8) fell for the sixth time in seven matches.
As has been the case in their previous seven defeats, the Privateers got off to a rocky start by dropping the doubles' point as the Bulldogs won each of the contested doubles' matches.
In singles' play, UNO was able to get a win on the board as Ben Smith rallied from a set down to defeat James McKie 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 2 position. Guilherme Rebolo came close to adding another win for the Privateers, bouncing back from a first set defeat with a second set win, before falling 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 to Jean Eramus at No. 4.
Next up for UNO is a 1 p.m. CT dual against UNC-Wilmington. The Seahawks are ranked No. 75 in the country and have defeated Samford and Drake this week to improve their dual record to 9-4.
