UNO Bats Come Alive in SBC Win at ULM

MONROE, La. -- Nick Schwaner hit an inside-the-park home run, as New Orleans picked up its first Sun Belt Conference win of the year with a 12-2 victory at Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday.
 
Schwaner's three-run home run was part of a season-high 20-hit day for the Privateers (5-11, 1-4 Sun Belt). Every UNO batter recorded at least one hit.
 
Schwaner went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and four runs scored, while Jerad Comarda contributed four hits and an RBI. Ryan Eden went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, one of six extra-base hits on the day. The Privateers managed just five hits -- all singles -- in a 6-2 loss on Friday.
 
Right-hander Jim McGonigle (2-0) continued his strong early season with seven solid innings. The Houston product allowed just four hits, struck out four and gave up two runs.
 
The Privateers roughed up ULM starter Drew Granier (2-1). The right-hander allowed five runs and 10 hits in just 3 2/3 innings in his shortest outing of the year.
 
Caleb Clowers led the Warhawks (8-10, 2-3) with two hits and scored a run.
 
The Privateers got some clutch hitting all afternoon. UNO scored eight runs with two outs, including Schwaner's fourth-inning home run.
 
The win snapped an eight-game losing streak against ULM.
 
The two teams will wrap up the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
