No. 23 Auburn Limits UNO to Three Hits in 13-1 Win

AUBURN, Ala. - Hunter Morris and Trent Mummey had three hits apiece as No. 23 Auburn held New Orleans to just three hits in a 13-1 victory on Wednesday night at Plainsman Park.

The duo were amongst a group of six Auburn (23-11) players that had at least two hits in the game. The pair also had two RBIs apiece as the host Tigers scored runs in each of the first five innings to take a 5-1 lead before adding two more runs in the sixth and six in the eighth.

Morris and Mummey factored into most of the early scoring with Morris singling Mummey home in the first inning before adding a solo home run to his resume in the third inning. Mummey's RBIs came with a double in the fourth and a two-out single in the sixth.

Auburn exploded for six runs in the eighth with the two heavy hitters limited in their involvement as the Tigers took advantage of two UNO (10-22) errors, a hit batter and a Casey McElroy two-run home run.

Cory Luckie (3-2) took the win for Auburn on the night throwing the first two innings and not allowing a single hit. Luckie was joined by five other pitchers who contributed in holding UNO (10-22) in check offensively. The three hits by the Privateers were one shy of the season low of two hits established in losses to Tulane (Feb. 24) and Western Kentucky (Mar. 12).

Two of the three hits came during the run-scoring third inning for UNO. After Ryan Eden walked with two outs in the frame, Rodarrick Jones and Johnny Thomas connected for singles on consecutive at-bats to score Eden.

Joe Zimmermann (0-5) took the loss for the Privateers, pitching five innings for the first time since the season opener against St. John's. The sophomore allowed five runs on nine hits, while striking out one.

In relief, Ricky Ott allowed two runs over his two innings on the mound while Tyler Sanders saw six runs come across the plate - one earned - while pitching the eighth inning.

UNO resumes conference play this weekend at Florida International. The series kicks off Friday at 6 p.m. Central with games at 4 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday. Each of the games will be broadcast on WGSO 990 AM.
