NEW ORLEANS - Troy relief pitcher Chase Whitley held New Orleans hitless over the final five innings, and the Trojans scored a run in each of the final three frames, as Troy took a 10-8 win over the Privateers on Sunday afternoon at Maestri Field.
Whitley (3-2) struck out nine and allowed only one base runner, as the Trojans (21-19, 8-10 Sun Belt Conference) completed a three-game sweep.
Whitley helped his own cause with an RBI single in the ninth inning and was one of five Trojans to record multiple hits. Troy had 17 hits overall, though the Trojans struggled with 15 runners left on base.
Adam Bryant went 4-for-6, while Todd McRae and Chad Watson had three hits each. Whitley was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
The Privateers (10-29, 2-19) scored five runs in the third inning off Troy starter Drew Hull, and Nick Schwaner had a two-run home run in the fourth to give the hosts an 8-6 lead.
But UNO was held in check by Whitley, who entered the game with a 1.98 ERA.
UNO's Tyler Sanford was 2-for-4 with a solo home run. The Privateers had eight hits in the first four innings, including RBI singles by Johnny Thomas and Jerad Comarda.
The Privateers will kick off a five-game week with a 6:30 p.m. contest on Tuesday at LSU.
