NEW ORLEANS - Troy scored 11 runs in the fifth inning en route to a 15-0 win at New Orleans on Saturday at Maestri Field.
Chase Whitley went 4-for-4 with a two-run home run, and T.J. Rivera added three hits and an RBI as the Trojans (20-19, 7-10 Sun Belt Conference) clinched the series victory. Troy tallied 12 hits overall and hit three home runs for the second consecutive night.
Right-hander Tyler Ray (5-3) tossed eight shutout innings and scattered seven hits to pick up his third win in league play this season.
Senior outfielder Ryan Eden went 2-for-4 for the Privateers (10-28, 2-18), who were held to seven hits.
UNO did turn three double plays on the night.
The Trojans broke open a 3-0 game with a huge fifth inning. The Trojans batted around and scored the most runs in an inning against UNO this year.
Ray did the rest, walking just one batter and surrendering just four singles and three doubles.
Reliever Tim Wheeler finished the shutout with a strikeout in the ninth.
The two teams will wrap up the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
