Privateers' Three-Match Win Streak Snapped at HBU

Freshman Berry Reaches Double-Figures for Fourth Straight Match

HOUSTON – New Orleans saw its three-match winning streak come to an end in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-13) loss at the hands of Houston Baptist on Saturday at Sharp Gymnasium.

Taylor Berry reached double-figure kills for the fourth straight match to lead UNO (7-12). Berry notched 12 kills with just three errors in 23 attack attempts in front of a hometown audience.

Ariane Labrzycki dished out 22 assists for the Privateers in the match. Lauren Levy handled 14 digs while Brionne Smith tied a season-high and personal-best by getting a hand on five of UNO's six blocks.

HBU (14-10) won its second match in a row and completed an in-season sweep of the Privateers. Bailey Keith led all offensive players with 14 kills as the Huskies hit .361 for the match.

Heather Leaverton added 11 kills for HBU, which also received a double-double performance from setter Victoria Weatherly. Weatherly contributed 10 digs alongside 39 assists for the home squad.

The Huskies led the entire match with the exception of the second frame when UNO took a quick 1-0 advantage on a kill by Smith.

HBU was able to establish itself early, jumping out to at least a five-point advantage by the time it scored the 11th point of each set. The Huskies set the tone by jumping ahead 10-5 in the opening set,  11-4 in the second stanza and 11-6 in the third frame.

The Privateers will seek to get back in the win column on Tuesday at 7 p.m. as Louisiana-Lafayette pays a visit to the Human Performance Center. The match is the second-to-last home contest of the year for UNO, which has split its first six home matches this season.
