NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team took an early 1-0 lead over the visiting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders, but could not sustain the early momentum as Islanders won three straight sets for the 3-1 victory on Thursday night at the HPC.
The Privateers (3-16, 0-7) won the first set 25-19 on the heels of senior
Marti Richmiller leading the way with 4 of her 12 kills in the game coming in the set. The Privateers carried the momentum into the second set, just being edged by the Islanders 25-23. The Islanders (11-7, 6-1) took control of the match after intermission, defeating the Privateers in straight sets: 25-12, 25-16.
For the game, New Orleans was led by Richmiller with 12 kills with sophomore
Taylor Berry following with 7 to go along with 3 block assists and 2 solo blocks. Leading the Privateers in assists was sophomore
Celeste Ramirez with 29, while also sporting 14 digs and 3 kills. Sophomore
Lauren Levy led the Privateers in digs with 17.
The Islanders were led by Brianna Brink with 15 kills, while setter Logen Bourque had 51 assists. Libero Shayla Maldonado also pitched in 21 digs in the contest.
New Orleans continues conference action this Saturday with a 2 p.m. tilt in the HPC against Houston Baptist.
