Privateers Suffer Defeat to Incarnate Word

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers Volleyball team fell 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-3, 25-17) to the University of Incarnate Word at the Human Performance Center on Thursday night.
 
The Privateers (3-22, 0-12 Southland) won the first set, 25-23, on the heels of 5 kills from Alyssa Podwell and 11 assists from Celeste RamirezTaylor Berry also contributed 2 solo blocks in the set to help propel the Privateers to victory.
 
The Cardinals (10-9, 5-5 Southland) rebounded in the second set to claim the 25-22 victory, and after intermission continued to soar, doing so with a 25-3 third set win.  UIW rallied to a 17-1 advantage in the set – including a 9-0 start – to serve UNO its most lopsided set loss of the season.
 
UIW went on to win the fourth and final set, 25-17.  Leading the Privateers in the loss was Podwell with 10 kills, followed by Marti Richmiller with 8.  Ramirez finished with 3 kills and 29 assists, while Lauren Levy contributed 13 kills in the match.
 
Topping the box score for the Cardinals was Angelique Vidaurri with 17 kills and Brittani Dear followed her in that department with 14.  Danielle Suarez led in assists with 31 and Sarah Cardenas was atop the team in digs with 16.
 
The Privateers will host Abilene Christian on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Human Performance Center.  Complimentary admission is open to the public.
