HAMMOND, La. – The New Orleans Privateers suffered a 3-0 setback to Southland and regional rival Southeastern La. at the University Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Privateers (3-24, 0-14 Southland) lost the first set, 25-16, despite senior
Marti Richmiller and sophomore
Taylor Berry each having 3 kills. Senior
Ariane Labrzycki also had 8 assists in the first set loss. The Lions (10-16, 4-10 Southland) accounted for 15 kills in getting the win.
Building on the first set victory, the Lions carried the momentum into the second set and gained a 25-8 win to go up 2-0. The third and final set swayed in favor of Southeastern, 25-19, despite a valiant effort by the Privateers, as the team fought to tie the match, 15-15, before the Lions pulled away.
Leading the Privateers in the match was Richmiller with 6 kills, followed by Berry and freshman
Courtney Roblez with 5. Labrzycki was the only Privateer to register an assist and she finished with 18. Sophomore
Lauren Levy led New Orleans in digs with 15.
The Lions were led by Rachael Bunn with 10 kills, while Mikayla Smith put forth 33 assists.
New Orleans returns to the HPC this Thursday and Saturday for its final two home matches of the season. The Privateers welcome Northwestern State on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Stephen F. Austin on Saturday at 2 p.m. The final two-game home stand will be the final home matches for seniors
Nandi Brown, Labrzycki, and Richmiller.
