RUSTON, La. – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team got off to a slow start against Stephen F. Austin in non-conference action to start the Louisiana Tech Invitational, and fell 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-13) on Friday night.
New Orleans (4-4) was led by freshman
Rondolyn Bryant with seven kills, followed by fellow freshman
Mikayla Sellers-Wiebe with six. Senior
Ashley Everett had four on the night, with the highest attack percentage on the squad with .500. Junior
Sara Hammoutene was atop the team with 18 assists, while Sellers-Wiebe led in digs with 10.
Stephen F. Austin (4-5) received a solid effort from Jill Ivy with a team-high 12 kills while Paige Holland had 31 assists.
The Privateers fell behind in the first match against the Lumberjacks, as Stephen F. Austin out-pointed New Orleans 19 to 5 to close out the set. The Lumberjacks held New Orleans to a season-low negative .067 attack percentage in the first set.
The second and third set saw improvement from the Privateers, but Stephen F. Austin pulled away with both sets at the midway point.
New Orleans picks up action tomorrow at 10 a.m. versus Louisiana Tech, followed by Texas-Pan American at 4:30 p.m.
