NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team (2-10, 0-3) got out to a strong start, but could not keep the Sam Houston State Bearkats (3-11, 2-2) off the free throw line in a  75-59 loss on Saturday at Lakefront Arena.

After trailing for nearly the entire first half, Sam Houston State used a 6-0 spurt to grab their first lead of the game at 38-32. New Orleans scored the next five points to get within one, but the Bearkats were able to re-extend the lead to as much as eight points.

Randi Brown then started to heat up from downtown, hitting triples on back-to-back possessions to help cut the Privateers deficit to one at 53-52 with 7:04 remaining.
